The printer stamps the cloth (approximately) 300 times to complete 3 meters in 2 colors.

Printing blocks are hand carved from teak and sheesham wood.

A fine block takes 2 days to carve and wears out after about 800 meters.

The printer may use from 1 to 5 separate blocks to complete a garment design.

It was started in 1994. All fabric processing at Rangvai is done by hand.

  • The human energy input into an (average) Rangvi garment is 8 to 10 hours.
  • From new cloth to finished product a Rangvai item passes through at least 12 pairs of hands.
  • Most of the surface ornamentation is done in the workshops or by needy families at home.
  • Creative techniques used are resist prints, tye dye, batik, hand painting and block printing for yardage or made ups
  • The dyes are hand mixed and are of vegetable, mineral and chemical derivation.
